IMG ALT

The HTML IMG tag is used to include images in a web page, for example using HTML code like this:

<IMG SRC=picture.gif WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=200>

There are many optional elements to the IMG tag, but for search engine positioning the most important one is ALT which allows you to offer a text description of the image.

Some search engines do take notice of ALT, so it is worth including it on all your images. In your ALT text you should try and include those search terms that you are targeting, for example:

<IMG SRC=boots.jpg WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=200 ALT="cowboy boots">

And there's another advantage - including the ALT could make your pages more useful to people who have graphics turned off and visually impaired users.
